Elegant and powerful, the Connie set a number of speed and distance records, despite frequent engine problems that led to it being jokingly called the most reliable three-engine airplane. The aircraft's elegant appearance was due to the fact that two bulkheads were not the same shape. A design that has long since been replaced by cheaper tubular constructions that are more resistant to pressure changes.
