The name "Silver Arrows" is synonymous with success. Mercedes-Benz still uses the term today, but the story really began in the 1930s, when the German press dubbed the Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union Grand Prix race cars that dominated the competition between 1934 and 1939 "Silver Arrows." This was due in part to the fact that the paint on the cars was removed to meet racing regulations, exposing the aluminum underneath and giving them a silver exterior.
